Pink High Tea - Breast Cancer Awareness Event


October is known as breast cancer awareness month worldwide, and healthcare officials, cancer survivors , and various brands spend this time educating people about early detection and treatment of breast cancer.
On Saturday, iQatar organized 'Pink High Tea' at Zaffran Dining Experience in support of Qatar Cancer Society.  The event was held to show support, spread awareness and raise funds for Qatar Cancer Society.


It was attended by nearly 50 women who pinned pink ribbons to their dresses to show support and  Pink balloons were used to decorate the breast cancer fund raising event.The members were welcomed with a pink lemonade drink-- a special drink created by the restaurant to support the cause.

The event began with informative talk by Dr. Hadi from Qatar Cancer society. He spoke about self check-up at home with the help of brochures 'having different lemon textures' distributed to all the women guests present. He further informed women about the current campaign run by Qatar cancer society. Free mammograms are available to female Qatar residents between the age of 45-69 to mark Breast cancer Awareness month.  Women falling in above mentioned age bracket can call at 80001112 and book an appointment at any of their two 
screening centers at Al wakra or Leabaib. Women who are under the age of 45 years can call at 107 to book their appointments. However, he informed that women who have previously suffered from breast cancer should contact their physicians at PHCC for further guidance. 


After an informative talk by Dr. Hadi, the stage was taken over by  Alyazi Al Kuwari (the CEO of Qatar Society for 
Rehabilitation and special needs) a Cancer survivor. She was the honorable guest of the evening. She spoke 
about her journey of courage, hope and positive attitude that helped her fight breast cancer and requested 
women to support women suffering with the same. 

The members were then asked to write down their wishes on the balloons. All the members wished for health and happiness for women and together all the women released the pink balloons in the air to send their wishes to 'heaven'. 

Elizebeth Walker, guest shared her experience,"It was a very informative event. Specially, the way the lemon textures were done in the brochures to educate women about the self check ups at home. Also, I loved the food which was specially conceptualized for the event." 

A special pink and healthy menu was done by Zaffran for the evening. The benefits of every food items was mentioned against its name on the menu. The menu included Pink Cotton,  Cheesy melon rock, Dollar pink belly, funny sponge cake, poulet 'n' pots, pink egg, chicken and olive bruschetta , pink cheese roll and pink desserts.

Art therapy session by Qatar Expat Women

Today I attended art therapy session organised by a very known group in Doha for expat women 'Qatar expat women a positive support group' . The session was taken by an Indian artist Savita J Jhakar. The venue was a decent hotel Warwick. I was just on time and expected the event to be full of knowledge about art therapy and how can we really apply it in our lives.  But, I was disappointed because she just asked us to draw a portrait of ourselves and then she collected the art sheets and spread over the floor. Then everybody saw what all; everybody has drawn and how has everybody explained their personality. And that's it... Then she said , "thank you and everyone can be an artist." Well, I did not come for that... But anyways Qatar Expat women group's larger goal is to bring expat women together.
