Dim Sum brunch at Shanghai Club

Dim Sum Brunch

Shanghai Club at Shangri-la Hotel has introduced the ‘Dim Sum Brunch’ this season. The restaurant-cum-lounge situated on the 43rd floor, promises breathtaking views of the Doha skyline and beautiful sea.
Talking about the concept of ‘Dim Sum Brunch’, Figen Caglar, Director of Marketing and Sales said, “We are following the tradition of ‘Yum cha’, or “going for dim sum”, which involves drinking Chinese tea and eating dim sum.
“It is very popular in Cantonese-speaking regions in China, including the southern provinces of Guangdong and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau, and has spread to other regions worldwide due to the presence of the Chinese in Diaspora,” she said.
“In general, people go to Yum cha with families, co-workers, and groups of people, so it is also a common choice for people to get together to catch up in Chinese tradition,” she added.
Elaborating on the menu for the brunch, which includes an array of dim sum, she said, “As Cantonese people tend to avoid fried food early in the day, steamed dishes dominate most dim sum menus. There are also snack-sized portions of pan-fried, deep-fried. The steamed food is served in bamboo steamers, which are designed to be eaten communally and washed down with tea.”
The Dim Sum Brunch at Shanghai Club is served only on Saturdays from noon to 4.00pm and costs QR238 per person and an additional QR112, if house beverages are ordered.
There are private rooms with spectacular views but you need to book in advance, if you want to relish your brunch with excellent views of the city. The walls of Shanghai Club’s dinning area are adorned by paintings brought specially from Shanghai, to add flavour of the local culture in the restaurant.
The dim sum brunch began with duck boa sliders, their famous home-made burger and crispy chicken. It was followed by steamed dumplings served in bamboo dishes. This section serves you five varieties of dim sums inclusive of a vegetarian option. Likewise, you are served with four varieties of pan-fried and fried dumplings and snacks. The extensive variety of dumplings is inclusive of traditional steamed soup dumplings.
One of the major attractions is the live noodle show, where you can see flour dough turning into long strands of noodles right in front of you. Then the noodles from the show are served with garlic sauce to all the guests.
The main course included a range of rice, noodles, chicken dishes followed by delicious mango-based dessert and tradition dumpling dessert. It is a dessert with steamed dumplings, stuffed with mixed nuts in an almond fragrance soup.
